SNP is located along the southern Sierra Nevada and was established in 1890 as the second U.S. national park, after Yellowstone National Park. The park encompassing a vertical relief of nearly 13,000 feet and contains the highest point in the contiguous 48 United States, Mount Whitney, at 14,505 feet above sea level. The park is most famous for its Giant Sequoia trees, including the General Sherman tree, one of the largest trees on Earth.
